Mushroom foraging and tasting - Forest of Dean

We’re teaming up with Noisy Wren to bring you a special event in the Forest of Dean!

Join us for a special autumn fungi foray followed by a tasting session at Noisy Wren in the Forest of Dean.

Please note: this is an identification forage and we won’t be harvesting mushrooms in any quantity, so please don’t bring baskets or containers as you won’t need them. We will select a few of the best edibles for a tasting session afterwards.

What you’ll learn on this foray …

🍄Fantastic Fungi

  • Safe identification of mushrooms, with a focus on common, widespread edible and medicinal fungi that you can go on to forage by yourself.

  • Discover the lookalikes and poisonous fungi and the importance of 100% accurate identification. If in doubt, leave it out!

  • We’ll also talk more widely about the fascinating hidden world of mushrooms, and their importance in our lives and futures - it’ll blow your mind!

  • Medicinal fungi; a subject that’s starting to get a lot of attention now, and for good reason! Some fungi have bonafide medicinal superpowers, so we’ll be on the lookout for those too.

🌳Trees and plants

  • Fungi are super connected to the rest of the natural world, and learning about those connections is key to identification for mushroom foragers.

  • We’ll look at trees and plants that share these fungal connections and how you can use this knowledge to find, ID, and forage fungi in the wild.

  • You’ll learn about the history and folklore of fungi and plants, and their uses in bushcraft and wilderness survival.

Tasting session at Noisy Wren

  • Noisy Wren are a Forest of Dean based flower business providing all aspects of floral work, and will have a newly opened studio for us to have our mushroom tasting session at!

  • Check them out at noisywren.co.uk and on socials: Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp

  • Location and more details will be emailed nearer the time.
